Chelsy shantel biography of abraham

  • Gene Barretta's dual biography of Presidents Lincoln and Kennedy provides a side-by-side comparison of the two leaders during similar moments.
  • Experiencing TERRA: a site-.
  • President Abraham Lincoln's coat – which he was wearing the night he was shot at Ford's Theatre – was recently transported from the Ford's Theatre National.
  • The black wool great coat was custom made for Lincoln by Brooks Brothers for his second inauguration in 1865. Inside the coat, a silk lining shows an eagle surrounded by four shields and holding two banners reading: “One Country, One Destiny.” Several weeks after Lincoln's death, his widow, Mary Lincoln, gave the coat to Alphonse Donn, a trusted White House employee. Donn kept the coat in a trunk, occasionally bringing it out to show visitors. A common practice at the time, he allowed some people to cut away pieces for keepsakes. This resulted in the eventual detachment of the left sleeve.

In 1968, the coat was purchased from Donn's descendants and donated to Ford's Theatre National Historic Site. To preserve this important piece of history, the coat is only displayed for limited times. The Met's exhibition will allow a whole new audience to see it and feel a connection with one of our greatest presidents.

  • Lincoln and Kennedy: A Pair to Compare

    November 20, 2017
(Book jacket) President Abraham Lincoln grew up in a one-room log cabin. President John F. Kennedy was raised in the lap of luxury. One was a Republican and one a Democrat. They lived and served a hundred years apart. Yet they had a number of things in common. Some were coincidental: having seven letters in their last names. Some were monumental: Lincoln's support for the abolitionist movement and Kennedy's support for the civil rights movement. They both lost a son while in office. And, of course, both were assassinated.

    Comments
Comparing Lincoln and Kennedy seems a bit of a stretch since they were both such different people and were clearly shaped by their times. However the author is surprisingly successful at doing this. However there are a few glaring (to me) statements that seem more “trumped up” than noteworthy –Lincoln was shot at Ford’s Theater; Kennedy was shot riding in a Lincoln (made by the Ford Motor Company). Also, a witness to the Kennedy assassination who filmed the event on his home-movie camera was named Abraham. (First name.) These facts, while they may be true, seem to be too silly to include in this nonfiction picture book biography.
